Please join us for a two day photography course with our expert Mark Lehn in the beautiful Sossusvlei sand dunes, Namibia's famous highlight in the heart of the Namib Desert. Some of the spectacular red hills of sand are, at a height of 300 metres, the highest in the world. Only after a heavy rainfall, which is a rare event in this area, does the vlei fill with water. As the clay layers hardly allow any water infiltration, a turquoise lake will remain for quite some time.
The best time to view Sossusvlei is close to sunrise and sunset; the colours are strong and constantly changing, allowing for wonderful photographic opportunities. Located in the Namib Naukluft park, the largest conservation area in Africa, and fourth largest in the world - the sand dunes at Sossusvlei are just one excellent reason to visit Namibia.
The second attraction of the area is Sesriem Canyon, which is only a few kilometres from the main Nature Conservation office. The canyon derives its name from the fact that early Afrikaner trekkers had to use six ('ses') leather thongs (a thong is a 'riem') so that their buckets could reach the water far below. Because it is so deep and sheltered, it often holds water well into the dry season - an invigorating sight in such a barren and stark environment. Leopards, brown hyenas, klip springers, geckos, and secretary birds are some of the wildlife you might be lucky enough to see.
We will be camping overnight on our specially equipped 4X4 landrovers complete with roof top tents.
This course is followed automatically by our 10 day trip with the san bushman so is an excellent opportunity to learn some skills before heading out to spend some time with the San.
We are extremely fortunate to have such a talented and sought after photographer joining us to share his skills. For more information on Mark please go to www.marklehn.com .
